In case you have ever felt too old to do something, just take a look at the Ernestine Shepherd who will prove that the age is just a number. She is the world’s oldest female bodybuilder who will turn 81 this June.
You might have noticed a meme going viral on the Internet about 2 elderly ladies, the one constrained to a wheelchair and the other one standing up and fit. Well, you know that the latter is an inspiring woman who is really happy.
But, wait to hear her unique story. Although she has a Guinness record, she was not a bodybuilder her entire life! In fact, she started working out and exercising at the age of 56!
Ernestine Shepherd was born on 16th of June, 1936 in Baltimore. During her childhood and adulthood, she took care of her sister who later died of a brain aneurysm. Then, Ernestine chose to dedicate her time to take a proper care of her own health and body. Indeed, she changed her lifestyle completely, because she had suffered from high blood pressure.
Nowadays, she wakes up at 3 am every day and runs approximately 130 km per week. Moreover, she eats a calorie-controlled diet containing only boiled egg whites, vegetables, chicken, and water.
When asked about the secret of success and longevity, she said that the key is to ‘never give up’. So, the next time you don’t feel like going to gym or skip a workout, think about Ernestine.
